I have had my permit for 2 years in July. It expires in july and ive just been putting off getting my liscense because i never really cared about the 'no riding past dark' rules.Anyway. those of you who have your liscense, what did you have to do for the test.

I agree. Its bad enough I almost get killed from idiot drivers, when I am in my car, in a motorcycle, there is no protection... Motorcycles should only be used offroad.

But seriously thats the easiest cheapest way.. If you go to the registry to get it itll take a couple times.. they suck.. and you have to bring your own bike.. it has to pass their requirements.. blah blah.. taking it on a rice rocket sucks also they dont turn as nice and easy as the training bikes they have at the courses..

I disagree with Ed. 1st time I took it,I showed up (16 years old). Officer comes and does a safety check (horn, lights, etc). Then he hands me my permit back. I thought I failed. As he walked away he said "congrats". I said don't I need to ride it? He said "you got here in one piece, right?" . I didn't ask questions. Rode away happy.
Then I let it expire and had to re-take it. I passed easily (couple figure 8's, stopping carefully, safety inspection and WHAAALAA).
It's really not that hard. Just don't let a cop intimidate ya. You still keep your permit and can still ride away if you fail. It's not the end of the world.

i have pamplets here at the store for it cuz i am taking the course in a month or so. if you are interested, they are on the opposite side of the building... its $249 if you dont have a bike and like $149 if you have a bike.

typically what people who dont ride say. every accidents avoidable, and your chances of dying are exactly the same if one happens.

Not every accident is avoidable... Unless you have a 6th sense. Chances of dying on a motorcycle is MUCH higher, as there is no safety. Your body gets tossed, into whatever you happen to land on, breaking bones, liquifying organs...
Typically what people who ride motorcycles say, until they get into an accident.

Because it has happened to people, even people who post on this forums, and people HAVE died. At no fault of the motorcycle driver.

i know the risks, Ive had some hairy moments and thought about selling my bike right on the spot, i took a break, cooled down for a few days and took it real easy, fuckin around teaches you a lesson. Both my uncles ride and have ridden since highschool, they are the ones who got me interested in bikes and cars to begin with. Depends on the kind of person you are, some have all the luck. one of my uncles was in intensive care for several weeks 2 times and my other one lost his spleen in a bike accident. Both of them have crazy bikes now but are very experienced and learned there lesson...most accidents are avoidable, some aren't (just like in cars) you always have to be in defensive mode on a bike.

How much experience with a bike is neccessary for those courses? (besides having a permit)

The ONLY real defensive mode on a bike is not to get on one.. In not going into details but I am an expert on this..

right...but jay basically what im getting at here is people who get on a bike generally know this getting on the bike and if your passion is riding a motorcycle than why worry about what could happen.. I mean you al;ready know it but why let it ruin it for you if its your thing. I definetly agree with you though..

Oh, i understand... It's kinda how I drive. When alone, I drive like an insane asshole, when no one else is on the road around me. Put someone in the passenger seat, and I drive a LOT safer... The issue is, when someone else is with you, you are responsible for their wellbeing. Even if I did get on a motorcycle, snowmobile, dirtbike, 4 wheeler, I will NEVER EVER allow ANYONE on with me. They don't always know the risk and I know they are dangerous, why put that risk on someone you care about. That's my point.

im more of an expert on this than you and you're wrong. the only mishap on a bike that is unavoidable is getting a laser guided bomb dropped on you, and that doesnt happen.

Hey spence... Drive your bike to Dunks... You will then have to show me how to avoid me running you over...

You should pray to god every day that you never learn as much as I do about the dangers of being on a bike.
