View Full Version : I really wanna buy a bike

I want some 50's chopped up harley, I found this one on ebay, really like it, the guys bottom line is around 10k, which would mean I'd need to take out a loan or something. Prob not going to happen this year as I've got alot of work to do on the mustang to get it running again, but it would be nice.

Why don't you build one...

Aside from having zero metal fab and welding skillz, I wouldn't even know where to begin to get a bike looking the way I wanted it. If I could just get a really beat 50's style harley I'd just experiment with it and learn. Be a nice summer/fall/winter project.

Two mod posts and an admin post in a thread nowhere near where it should be. Holla atcha boyz.

By the way, that bike looks badass. I say build a trike like monster garage, diesel style.

I specifically didn't put it in that forum because I wanted the feedback of everyone, not just bryan and spence. If you move it back I'm going to chop your head off.

ON edit.. I just noticed more than bry and spence post in here now.. cool :ninja:

My dad and I are doing the same thing with a '62 Triumph right now. Bikes are much simpler than cars. If we need something welded we draw up what we want and take it somewhere but we have been doing lots of light metal fab (aka brackets) in our basement. It should run this summer :worry:

Yeah bikes def look about 34790342389x simpler than cars. I'd really like to get into an older harley.

You can probably buy all bolt-on shit, to be honest. I haven't looked into it, but I bet its as easy as ricing out a honda.

you can buy a chopper 'kit'. They used one on MOnster Garage to teach a high school auto class how to build a bike. They had to weld but other than that it was pretty damn easy.

Yeah you def can, I've been looking, but I'd like to start with a frame that's not stock. There are some things that I'd really want that are over my head right now.

I wouldn't go as far as to say, "mad," money, but I cant run out and buy a 20k bike right now. I really hate operating with nothing at all in the bank. If I could find a nice project for 5k, I'd prob do it. I also need to reserve enough cash to get the mustang running again, which isn't going to be cheap.

I've been doing it for a while now... bout a year... Finally getting back on my feet. It's nice to finally see 4 digits in the bank account, for longer then a day. Shooting for 5 digits by summer. Then, back down to 4 digits, cuz I'll spend it.

Yep, I don't like doing that at all. I'm getting up there again, but I can't blow it all because as soon as school is out, my rents are going to be like, "hey guess what! get out of our house." But if I can find a really really beat 50's style harley, and it's cheap enough, I'd get it just to start a project. Who knows, maybe I can do more work on it than I think I can.

Haha.. The best part about a bike is I can fit it in the basement where I do the polishing. So it would be a nice little shop to build it.

Getting it out will be a cunt... Getting it in, if it's in one piece, will be a cunt. Bikes are light, but not "carry it into the basement" light.

yes, look into an older Triumph. i have a 69 or 70 650 thats a basket case sitting in my shed that was my dads first bike. im trying to convince him to let me fuck around with it model A spare tire cover for a rear fender,21" front wheel, rigged frame, take off any uneeded lights, wires, bracket, and gauges. perfect to just bomb around during the summer when gas goes up to $2.50 a gallon. He wants to see it back to 100% stock, but i think otherwise. they are SUPER cheap to modify since there isnt anything to them. a harley on the other hand, are alot more money.

My Dad's bike is rocking a 21" front wheel too, but it is aftermarket along with everything else on the bike. If that bike is completly stock don't change anything. If you want a bike to play with by one that someone already changed because believe it or not the stock one's are worth something.

'63+ bikes may be super cheap to modify but it is next to impossible to find parts for the '62, and when we can they are very expensive...

I'll see if I have any pics of my dad's bike saved on my comp...

it has all of 38hp stock but it's been bored out with a rebuild twice now.

its stock with the exception of the bars. but it is in like 10-15 pieces. motor is in the shed. rolling frame is outside. have two tanks, the set of fenders, all the electrical is somewhere.

it was my dad's first bike. would be kinda cool for my first bike, but i dont want it stock.

yea, it would probably be worth maybe 4,000 to 5,500 completly redone in stock condition. but that means doing alot of stuff. painting EVERYTHING again. rechroming, rerunning all the electrical, new lenses for faded or broken shit, rebuild engine, along with alot of other things that would probably add up to close to what you could get for it if sold.

OR chop it, bob it, add some rake to the front end, rigid frame. little to no chrome, flat black that i could do myself, and just take off alot of stuff that with an original would have to be bought new or reconditioned.

If you are ever looking for parts I am pretty sure that every summer there is a Triumph-BSA-Norton swap meet at the Elks lodge in Auburn. Everything from grips to full bikes for sale. Also if you are interested I can get you the phone number of a guy from the Northshore that own a small Triumph only shop that has been a valuble asset to getting this bike going. He really knows what he is talking about

The family is a bunch of tv guys, not bike builders. Mikey actually got them that show, and is paid more than they are. He met the producer in a bar and it was all TV paradise from there. Mikey got special titles behind the scenes and got "finder fees". PLUS their bikes aren't reliable and break down often. Even the bike they built for Jay Leno broke down while he was riding it. He said it on-air about how people drove by him and beeped screaming "NICE OCC BIKE!"

I powdercoat parts for Dave Perewitz. He's a real bike builder. His shit's mint. Gibson Guitar bike, Patriots players, did Biker Build Off with Billy Lane. I also pc for another guy who builds bikes. Not as well known, but worked for perewitz for 7 years and left to do his own thing. His friend drives Jesse James' drag car and knows him personally. Anywho, I have heard from both that Paul Jr. wants to leave OCC to do his own bike thing. I think he should. Ya Perewitz is pretty nasty. People dont understand that occ is on tv because its "good tv" not because they are really good builders. if the father and son didnt flip out at each other they would not have a tv show. Untill reciently, when they hired real builders, they had little to no skill what so ever and mearly outsourced everything and assembled the parts but cutting off a piece here and there to make it fit, and giving it to a really good painter and re assembling it. if they did a show where they handed a guy pieces of metal, tires, wires and lights, and he made a bike out of it (like real builders do) it would be much better then two douches yelling at each other over nothing.
