Zl 500 Bad Gas Mileage

I'm new to this forum and wasn't sure if this was the appropriate spot for this post post, if its not, let me know.

I have a 98' zl 500 and it gets poor gas mileage. under 70 miles per tank ful around wmass trails and under 90 on woodford/island pond type trails. Is this normal for this sled? I have tried going real easy on the throttle and that did not have much affect. Its a twin, and we have triples and other twins that get much better mileage. The sled has about 4000 miles on it and I got it back in 99` with 1000 miles and it has always been this bad on gas.

Any suggestions?

make sure your oil resevoir is full. If its not, the machine burns more gasoline. try that.

As far as I know, it has stock jets, but i can't be possitive. I keep my oil pretty ful, when it hits 1/2, i fill the oil. If my jets are wrong, could that hurt my mileage?
