View Full Version : installing gauges

my mom and i just put a new plow on her dodge. well her factory temp gauge doesn't work so i ordered a autometer one and a trans temp gauge. both electric. how do i install them and how much work is it going to be, i need to get them done hopefully before saturday cause of this storm comming. also is anyone is willing to help me out, that would be sweet. thanks

All you need to do is find the factory temp sender, pull it out, get some kind of a T and install the new sender along with the factory one. As for the trans temp, the best way is braze a nut into the tranny pan and install it there. Or, the next best thing is put a T in the tranny line and stick the sensor in the line. Just be aware that method #2 isn't totally accurate, but, it will give you a general idea. Only thing I have found with method 2 is that the sender needs to be grounded to work, so you'll have to run a ground wire from the T to a good chassis ground. Not all that hard to do, you'll most likely spend more time looking for fittings than you will actually installing senders :thumbsup:
