Now I'm considering getting my exhaust manifolds (pre turbo) and my O2 hoursings (post turbo) all powder coated ... the idea being it will trap the heat and keep it out of the enginebay ... is this the case or is powder coating strictly for looks?

powder coating can be for some thermal protection, but what your getting is a ceramic coating not powder, powder coating is jsut like a thin plastic coat over everything, so high heat = melted plastic

ya .. curtis if you powdercoated those specific parts it would basically melt away .. basically just ceramic coat all the high temp piping just like a ceramic type header .. only Turbo .. wonder if you could actually coat the turbo?

im sure you could coat the exterior of teh turbo, if you were careful. ceramic coating is the way to go though, but make sure you have everything the way you want it first, so you dont have to have anything recoated later if you fuck with it.

you do not want to coat the compressor housing, that would hold heat in. leave it unfinished aluminum so ti dissipates the heat.
