Edgy new styling makes recent Cadillacs stand out from other cars, but it's not only the styling that has lead to the resurgence of the make. It is also a strong emphasis on power and performance.
Cadillac has already shown its performance version of the CTS, named the CTS-V. Talk about a racecar for the street - it accelerates with 400 horsepower and stops with Brembo brakes. But Cadillac isn't going to be content to just let its customers do a little street racing with their CTS-V. The carmaker is going to use the car to showcase Cadillac's performance and power by taking the CTS-V racing, going back to the old slogan of "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday."
These latest photos, taken at Germany's famous Nürburgring racetrack, show the racing version of the CTS-V as it goes through high-speed testing and development. The racecar shares the CTS-V's bold front-end styling, but one look at the big added-on fender flares and super-wide low-profile racing tires shows that this CTS-V is a true competition model. Look for it to race in the GT classes of the American Le Mans series.

The solstice is a go for production. Looks like it will sport the ecotech engine, both N/A and supercharged. Sure, it isnt a V8, but its a small car and will have about 240hp in its top trim. I am SURE SLP will have a field day with it too.
There are also talks of some RWD 4 door sedans around the corner for the other brands. GM isnt going to get rid of ALL of their FWD cars, but they are going to have a little more "up market" cars very soon.

It looks like an Infinity, just hoping on the bandwagon ppl that's wat it's about. If you havn't noticed overall car styling is becoming less curvish and more straightedged..nothing new they all follow each other like lemmings.

although I agree that all cars are starting to look exactly the same, I think if you put a CTS next to any other brand competition, you will see that it is a MUCH different looking car. The CTS almost has TOO many hard lines, which no other maker has really tried in the past 15 years to do. Do i like the look. yes and no. The CTS-v looks a lot better, just because it is more aggressive, but I am still not 100% sold on the look.

I'm not hating on it mind you guys. I'm simply saying that the styling is not original. The caddy also has to fight the old person stigma that surrounds it so this radical new styling is gonna probably kill a lot of the old time customers as they aim for a younger generation. These more powerful engines are thanks to the high demand of the sport compacts. Now they realize more hp is in again.

Yeah, I will agree that it is risky doing this. GM killed Olds because of the same move. I think caddy will be able to hold on. They are following in the footsteps of BMW and Mercedes now, which is a proven formula. It will be interesting to see what they do to the STS and DTS... That will either sign their death warant, or bolster their sales incredibly.

"Lutzmobile" Solstice Okayed for Rollout
The Bob Lutz-inspired Pontiac Solstice has been committed for production, nearly two years after the charismatic GM vice-chairman drove a concept on stage at the 2002 Detroit auto show after a mere three-month gestation period. Business Week Magazine headlines the news in its October 20 issue under the banner, "Meet the Lutzmobile." BW Detroit bureau staffer David Welch writes that the groovily-designed Solstice will enter the roadster bracket at a suggested MSRP slightly above $20,000 with the idea that "GM wants the Solstice to give Pontiac a real sports-car cachet, as the Miata gave Mazda when it came out in the mid-1980s."
The Solstice will be introduced as early as 2005, says Business Week , which would give Pontiac a second sporty newcomer in a row after import starts this winter of the GTO coupe from GM Holden in Australia. The Solstice also will usher in a frame hydroforming process that uses water at high pressure to bend steel tubes into shape, replacing the costlier stamping technique. Welch speculates that the new platform could be shared later with Buick and Saturn.

It's Lutz's brain child... I am sure it will look almost exactly like the proto. There are some spy pics of the production version being tested... Looks pretty close, although hard to tell with the coverups

I mean the concept ALWAYS looks better than the actual production. Take the Inteprid for instance find a concept pic of it than an actual one. It would be nice if the concept just went straight into production.

Yeah, but design engineers get LAZY and don't feel like making safety equipment fit in the body and then the manufacturing engineers try and cut costs and then it all goes to hell. I actually think the solstice will stay pretty true to the proto.

im kinda surprised lutzs "brainchild" would sport a 4 banger...
pop an ls1 in that thing, already got the t56, and id be willing to bet that the rest of the driveline can hande an ls1 if they put a t56 in it. thats overkill for 240 hp, which is good, because it means they may have plans for more power in the future.
