The following rules will apply to signatures. I am not trying to be a total nazi about this but we are also trying to run a car forum here for car enthusiasts of all backgrounds.

#1. Must be PG (the forum rules say no porn but that was a little ambiguous).

#2. Must be under 640x480 in size (not everyone browses at massive resolutions and I intend to make this forum work for them too).

That's it for now. I wont force people to have car related stuff in their sigs like other forums but please do try and keep in mind this is a car forum. If you want to post porn/skin then make a new thread in the lounge for it ... you don't need it in your signature.

Yeah, that size is a tad wider then mine and about twice as high. This means you can have more then one pic.

Do animated .gifs slow things down that much? I think the rules are more in nature to keep the point of a post to be for content rather than for signature ...

I don't think animated gifs are a problem, as long as they arent a movie, like Brad's old on some "other" site. Let us know if someone's sig is slowing you down so much that you can't load a thread. if it becomes a problem, then maybe we will have to confront it. For now, I don't see a problem.

Its a guide-line as I see it. try and keep it around there. I am not going to be a total nazi about it.

Just bringing this thread up to the top. I have noticed some people's sigs have become quite large... The 640x480 is TOTAL size, not each image. This includes text. As I said before, I am not going to be a Nazi about it and fuck people for 10 pixels... but, try and be within reason.

animated vs non animated do not affect the performance of a website. the initial size of the picture does. 500k is 500k, once the picture is downloaded the browser has it chached locally... so it's a moot point after downloaded.. initial size is the issue..
so setting an actuall KB limit, as well as a canvas limit would work better..
Gif's tend to be better graphic quality when compaired to other formats of the same size..

P.S. anyone viewing online content in 640x480 resolution should be shot and hung... :D

Yes, in terms of animateg gifs, I was refering to the KB size. there are quite a few people on dialup and waiting minutes to view a thread is kinda silly...

In terms of view size... hey, there are TONS of people who have smaller monitors and whatnot. This is a car site, not a computer geek site. Meaning, we have to deal with the lowest denominator...
