Met up with a buddy of mine who has a 04 SRT4 with stage 1 (ecu and injectors) and a wastegate acutator at 19 psi

He tells me how "he shits on modded stis all the time"

Im like ok and im following him down the highway, get on a double laned off ramp in 2nd at 40 and waited for him ready to be slaughtered (srt4s with those mods are good for like 103 traps) and he jumped, i went and got a little turbo lag (GOD DAMN YOU 4 CAT CONVERTERS) and i pulled his jump back to his back bumper, and he slowly started walking, to about 80-90 he was only 1 1/2 cars ahead, not much at all. I was expecting to get WALKED. i will go back for a rematch when im catless :)

can you do practically whatever you want with your exhaust b/c it's awd and they can't run an emissions test on it?

They'll run idle emissions on it, and no cats CAN make you fail, with enough mods done. Do injectors, scrap the cats, its possible you could fail.

Some people pass with the idle test catless, some dont, thing is when i get the standalone they have a map you can switch over in 30 seconds that runs very lean for fuel economy, between that and im safe. Either way i have a hook up

ALSO i hate the black smoke/egg smell, so im doing a full 3" turboback and im going to weld in ONE magnaflow high flow cat and ditch the other 3.

It's a newer car so they just plug it in for emmissions. Which is nice and simple to pass with. No codes=pass  It's easy to fool computers

What do bone stock WRX trap? 90-94MPH? Bone stock SRT-4 trap 100+ and this one is modded.

I'd expect worse.

There's soo many SRT-4s in my area it isn't funny. They are easy prey :)

average wrx traps 94, any lower then that and they are t3hs uck driver. 95-96 isnt uncommon. They trap low cuz they fall on their face at like 3rd gear but the first two gears are quick, the ones where i was with him

first 3 gears are nice and strong..it's that 4th gear that just plain out sucks. It's almost an overdrive gear.

I'll run ya bren, this kid sounds like a tool. I hope it's not anyone I know :(

I keep hearing about all these stories "oh this kid I know says he can beat STI's" "I heard this kid taking out z06's stock" "someone in Stoughton took out a supercharged stang " (ok so that actually happend but the kid in the stang missed 3rd I think, and he beat the srt once after that. )

oh, and since my mustang comment ("I haven't lost to a mustang yet" and then brad posted the me vs him video...) well....add another notch back! karma is a bitch! the guy was stock except for gears and exhaust. I think I suck at street racing cause mystic1199 ran a 13.6 is his vert on the bottle and at the time I ran a 13.5. I'm down to 13.34@ 106 now

SRT4s are very capable cars, but the few that I have seen at NED with "mods to run mid 12's", were running in mid 13's. Aren't those stock times?

You should come out to my track. I don't remember losing any but 2 races when I was running LOW 13s with just a BC/INTAKE :)

Usually, it's me and 3-4 other people at the track running into the 12s.

and you said yeah on dirt, like as in, yeah on dirt, not on pavement.

there are about four 12 second SRT's in New England with only bolt-ons. They run 14's stock.

i was just saying that because of you guys were saying you eat sti's that probly have an intake/exhaust and thats it, of course the suspension design is better, thats as obvious as a 12 sec vr4 and an 11 sec 3rd gen beating near stock sti's

lol.....see what alot of people dont understand is that suspension and handling isnt all there is to road driving........power is just as important......

because what happens when your in a 25hp miata, and you can go around a corner at like 65, and i can only take it at like 40......so you get like 6 car lengths on me going into the turn.......

then you exit the turn and i pass you at 120 on the straight and put 12 car lengths on you before the next corner and so on and so forth.

ends up making it pretty even, if not lopsided in the other direction

these guys were doing that in a f3rd gen transam with twin turbo's making like 213543554354 HP over in europe......i'll try and find the link

ok, with a u-tec, 3 mods, thats a fast sti, but its still obvious youd win with consistant 11 sec. passes, which you do regularly apparently:eh:

but sports cars are supposed to carve corners too, they deffinitly shouldnt be underpowered (which the miata isnt), but they dont need 650 hp either, you know? and find the link, that sounds pretty cool

a 4 cylinder turbo with exhaust and ecu and intercooler does 12.1 on street tires, a 383 stroked 8 cylinder takes a rebuilt engine and smasher mods to do that.

im not seeing the superiority, you spent more money.

actually smashor, in road racing

a. driving comes first
b. handling
c. power

but then I got to spend a whole weekend at loudon to see it in action.

very few tracks hand the advantage over to ill handling, high horse cars.

interesting you say that since there was a nascar at the SCCA run offs which got owned by the far better handling trans am car.

also, at watkins glen last year, in the vintage car race the formula one car obsolutely destroyed the CART car even though its well known cart cars produce more horse power.

On a road course, this is 100% correct. I would even bring it farther:
1) experience
2) everything else

I am NO professional driver, but I instruct on road courses and have a few hundred days track driving. I pretty regularly get into a 1 or 2 group (the lower the number, the more experience) for my last run of the day, in order to go home early. I'll easily leave much higher performance cars behind me. No, they don't catch me in the straight because I've put so much distance on them through the corners. This is in my blisteringly powerful (100hp) Honda CRX with significant suspension mods. Common cars include M3's (E30, E36 and the occational E46), 911's and some of the Miatas (often the fastest of these mentioned). I can also tell you that a majority of experienced racers have gotten out of their BMW, Porsche and Cobra kit cars to get into Miatas. One of the fastest cars in the instructor group Monday was a spec Miata. The driver also happens to own a FFR Cobra.

I forget the name, but I know Don Pierce is part of it. It essentially is a time trials deal (so no head to head racing, meaning less chance of damage to the car)

you go out with a driving instructer, they assess your skills, tell you the best lines, etc.

if I remember right it was fairly cheap and gave you access to REAL tracks like loudon, and not stupid coned off courses in a parking lot.

I'm sure this is the one Jack is talking about.
