Ok .. throw some opinions
Current powerplant 305 TPI rated at 215 horse
*this is a car for cruising NOT a drag car
probably now 235-240hp
i need speeds of at least 160mph
engine swap to LT-1?
tranny swap - current 700R-4 (nice to cruise in)
opinioins are welcome

Why are you trying to go 160? No offence, but unless you live on the salt flats thats a pretty wierd goal.
At any rate drop it at the very least.

T-56
Would this be a situation where a rice wing is necessary?

going 160+ some sorta rice wing should be necessary, you want all the downforce you can get goin those speeds

SUGJESTION #1 BUY MY MOTOR .... IVE GON 180MPH IN A 4K POUND CAMARO W/ NO SPOILER (WELL A LITTLE ONE BUT IT DOSENT DO MUCH) BUT IT WILL HAVE NO PROB GOING 160....WELL YOU NOW THAT YOU HAVE BEEN IN IT:blush:

You really don't need all that much horsepower. A stock LT1 would do it. No need for a rice wing either.
Lower it, do alot of suspension work, get some good tires on there and I think you're all set. I would go for a T56.

tie it to my bumper so my car stays on the ground at 150+ ...
or swap in the 327, 325 horse should push it nicely to 160, but you will need about a mile straight to do this, around corners yuo will need to do a complete suspension rebuild and get a racing alignment. You will also need a new driveshaft ragardless.

i know ive gone over this with you. if you wanna do it the easy way, 327 and t-56. then you will need a full suspesion replacment in the rear, i would suggest full tubular front, coil overs, 245 front 275 rear z rated or better, BIG brakes, full undercarrige paneling would be a good idea, front and rear spoilers, i think thats about it. with all that you would be set good for high speed runs and cornering.

I know. I am shooting for 160 with just a cam, exhaust, and a tune with the caprice... and it is a fucking barn on wheels.

haha, you could always do what Timmy does... use nitrous on the highway... only it will probably blow your engine up. His was due for it soon too... LOL
Where are you going to do this ken? This idea ranks up there with pulling my motor and the last time I did 160:thumbsup:

in all seroisness...the only thing you realy need to get those speeds is a little more power....ok maybe alot more.THE BODY OF YOUR CAR IS FINE....NO GAY WING NEEDED....you be surprised how well some factory wings work for downforce, the only thing i would suggest is hoodpins and clear headlight covers.and maybe lower it a little.....tires are the most important part, theres no use going that fast if your just going to crash cause your tires come apart.

Hey Ken, food for thought. On a third gen firebird (almost the same drag coefficient, they're slightly better :cool2:) if you have 3.73's, a T-56, and 450 horse at the wheels around 4,700 rpm you have a proven formula for 200 mph. Happy hunting.....

Thats what I was afraid of, hehe. Hey, I've done it, so I guess I shouldnt knock kenny for it.

Dude im not into the whole drag racing BS .. I want to go AT LEAST 160 because i like being 140+ as of now im only 115mph .. when i had the blue vette id go joy riding on the pike at 160 .. but i dont have that setup .. if i cant get a late 80's early 90's corvette .. then this was a cooler idea
Brad .. im gonna do 160 by your house .. to help you clean up the leaves
NO WING .. NO body mods .. she stays stock
Don .. we talked about those headlight covers i think thats a good idea too .. hood pins are a must .. thanks for the ideas guys

I've seen third gen firebirds crack 200 with nothing more than a 2 inch drop and some side skirts hung from the pinchweld under the rockers to keep the air out from underneath. I've also seen the stock aerodynamics break 300mph with nothing more added aside from two ribs along the roof. If I remember right drag coeficient for firebird is .32 and a camaro is either .33 or .34. Headlight covers should help that out some and you'll be right there. Just work on more power :cool2:

Push it off a cliff, if your car is about 3500 pounds, and you push it off a 250 foot cliff by the time it hits the ground it will be going just about 160 +-10MPH and it will take just about 6 seconds.. good luck dude
