Don't forget Steve Lockett who is running 10.2 in his 2.4l turbo/nitrous Neon. Still tagged.

i think he just says shit like that to get us to pay attention to him... and because he just utterly refuses to admit that cars that aren't v8 rwd have ANY potential...

spence, nobody's stopping anyone else from putting a v8 in a 2400lb car. problem is that the weight of the motor and drivetrain alone really works against you in that screnario. neon motor+tranny+axles only weighs like 300 lbs. just the BLOCK on one of your motors weighs that... if not more...

What about that Len Ayala guy or whoever? I remember reading a article on his car in Hot Rod mag a few years back. Is he still pullin sick times in that neon?

last i heard about his street car, he was making nearly 500 fwhp on full boos, with a "75" shot of juice adding about 100 more, bringing him to nearly 600 to the front wheels between boost and n2o.

the only time i can think of off the top of my head was last summer when he ran the car to an 11.3 and got kicked out of Rt 66. for not having the required safety whatnots. that was well before he made the 500whp dyno run, as well, so it's definately faster now...

len is kinda a god in the neon community. he piloted Hahn Racecraft's project car which was the first neon to break a bunch of e.t. levels. if you've seen the neon vs. viper video, where the guy goes "was that a neon?" at the end. that was him in that car i just mentioned, from a long long time ago...

i'll see if i can get a link to that vid for anyone taht hasnt seen it.

EDIT: here's that vid. link (http://www.enforceraltima.com/videos/neon-vs-viper.html)

The black car featured in Hot Rod was taken off the street soon after that came out. It's not currently being raced. I think the quickest that car ran was low 9's, I don't believe it ever ran an 8.

His new street car, as Devin said, is running pretty quick too. I believe that car has yet to make a run [at least a run that he's told people about] on slicks yet, only on 17" street tires.

Len Ayala, in addition to being a Neon god is a hell of a nice guy. I've met him in person and he and the entire Hahn team were very personable.

p.s. yeah, i never quite understood why the car had clear tails on it... maybe they weigh less than stockers? ;-)

because the more the car squats, the less power is actually going to be delivered to the front wheels to pull the car along, if you use those "wheelie bars" to prevent the ass end from sitting down, you allow the front end to keep more weight, and thereby keeping more traction.

same weight transfar principles apply to fwd cars as rwd ones. the physics of a launch don't really change, except it hurts a fwd car a lot more than a rwd one, tractionwise.

use your head, man... that's like the people who ask why the hell a downforce applying wing would go on a fwd car... if you think about it for a second it makes perfect sense, because it's the same reason it's on a rwd one.

People usually ask that when it's a ricer because their car run's 17's and doesn't need a roll cage much less the ugly wing on the back. That and some cars like that have a wing for body styling and not for functional use.

The car this post was originally about, Kevin Flint's, is a SOHC.

All of the other "big dogs" are DOHC's, yes.
