Picked up a want add yesterday and saw someone selling a 383 Mopar engine for $150. the ad says it's out of a 1964 Chrystler 300. Does anyone know without seeing either engine if that would fit my 73 Duster... I would be pulling the 318.. more realistically I would have the 383 sit at my house for a year until next school year when maybe (doubtfully) I could get it into the auto shop at school and put it in... I gotta go get some books and start readin up.. but my dad doesn't wanna go with me to get the engine so I didn't even call about it and I don't have the cash for another week anyways.. but anyone know if or where I can find out if the engine would fit correctly?.. :eh: :hmm:

anything will fit, might just take some custom mounts. chances are it wont bolt right up to your mounts. they probably make them, just not sure where. also, you gotta see if it will bolt to your tranny. so, get some books and start reading
www.engine-swaps.com has the mounts you'd need to swap from small block to big block. The tranny's are different. You'll need one for a big block.

The add said it came with "the original torqueflite 727 tranny"
Well then you're all set. Just need to get them both rebuilt. Then go to that website I posted earlier and buy the correct mounts.

well after thinking about it and talking to some guys on a mopar board.. I think I'm going to do some upgrades to my breaks and suspension before I worry about an engine.. I don't think changing that stuff can really hurt, and if I make it so that it could support the big-block or maybe even a 360 then my dad might toss a little money my way heh they said "upgrade suspension disc swap, torsion bars, rear end, and new rear springs" not sure what size my rearend is just know its a posi i think a 10 bolt.. but im stupid about these things, and the fact that i dont even know what a torsion bar is gives me the impression i should just shut the fuck up and buy some of the magazines you guys suggested to me haha. I'm sure I know what it is, just can't put the name to the part! :eh:

K member, torsion bars, tranny etc are all different a 383 is more like a big block, so water pump brackets etc are different
I'd buy a 360
Good Luck

the 383 i good, that motor would be a hell of a lot cheaper than buying/building a 360, id say if you have 150 layin around pick it up and do work to it as you go, the fact that you get a 727 with it is a pretty sweet deal for 150 bucks. itll all need a rebuild, but bump up the compression on that 383, port out the heads, do some valve work, get a new manifold and carb and toss on some headers, that thing will fucking fly in your duster. even if its just a project, for 150 bucks you really cant go wrong, and then you can do your suspension and brakes in teh meantime while your saving up to get the motor rebuilt/upgraded, good luck
