The last few weeks my car has been acting up when cold. I start it up when cold and it either dies right away or almost dies, like a leaky injector. ( ran into this before) But middle of the week last week it stopped for 2 days, and then friday it came back and did it all weekend. I dont see how an injector could leak one day, then not another. But i also dont know how any of the sensors would do this only when cold. Once the car warms up it runs great and has no problems until i let it sit a while and it cools down.
I am dynoing the car saturday and just want to fix this so i am sure i get the most out of the engine.......
Any ideas or questions let me know, and if anyone has 38 or 42# injectors i could swap one day this week just to test it out, let me know.
I am just not one of those people that throws parts at a car to try to fix it, but without sending the injectors out to have tested, this sounds like a good alternative. ( plus i wont have to buy them unless they end up being the problem. )

Yep, i cleaned my iac a day or two before it started doing it, and it ran fine after , but i have another at home so i may try to swap them. I thought of the tps sensor, but i misplaced my $300 multimeter, so until i find it or borrow one i cant check that either......:eh:

Ya, for the highly electronic vehicles like bmw's and stuff they are vital......but for older cars like mine it isnt a big deal.

Sounds like an IAC or TPS to me, i would think IAC more because it did it after you messed with it, i know a local guy who can flow the injectors, it's about 100$ more if they need to be cleaned etc, pm me for his contact info

Sounds about right to be IAC valve. Do you still run EGR valve on that. Sometime EGR valve gets stuck open and engine runs and dies, or runs rough.:eh:
I have a fuckin Fluke 88 fuckin $500+dollar DVOM. Someone shoot me for buying it! But it will be with me for a long time.

Ummmm, sure..the egr is still hooked up. lol
Ok the port is blocked in between the intakes.....ya got me.....
I sware it is emissions legal.........
By the way i checked my spare parts at home last night and have both an iac and tps sensor so once it stops raining i will drive my car down to work and test the sensors and replace accordingly. I would be real happy if it was a sensor instead of injectors......

the problem is, they put the distributor on the wrong end of the motor, but i'd check the IAC as well, if tis acting up, i'd just replace it, you can't really clean the motor and they do tend to wear out form time to time.

You were kidding right? A few times that was mentioned prior to you mentioning it.
And it isnt the distributorbeing in the wrong place, because I talked to an engine designer and he said it actual is why the 302 makes the 305 seem like a piece of junk!!! haha

:eh:
the 302 destroys the 305 anyday of the week on motor to motor
I have have and worked on a bunch of fords and built a few motors for some people try reving a stock 305 to 7000 not going to happen i've reved a stock 302 to 7000 and drove it home from the track and sold it later and it is still going. I can go and buy a 87 88 89 or any with a 5.0 h.o. and run tens they'll take a 250 shot no problem. im sorry you shit is fucked up change that sensor under the plenum

Well I started out thinking it was injectors, and now I am getting more and more sure about it. I replaced the iac with a spare i had, and checked voltage at the tps, and this morning it did the same thing. Started up, idled to 1200 then died, like a leaking injector did the last time i had this problem. Anyone have 38# injectors for sale?

In case anyone wanted to know i fixed my cold start/cold misfire problem. I guess the octane booster i used was a piece of crap, and it killed my original o2 sensors. So i unplugged them yesterday , went to the track and pulled off a 12.05@ 119.5mph. ......Lets just say they will stay unplugged. :)

Ususally unpluggin them will put the computer into a default mode, and fuel economy suffer's, but some people don't care, I liked goin 11's and getting 21mpg, but those days are gone for ever:wtf1:

Did think about maybe a bad vacuume (sp) hose. Because it could cause problems when cold, then once the engine warms up the hole is sealed and the car runs fine. Just a though after you try everything else. I've run into that problem before. I'm talking a very small slit in the hose just enough to let the air out, then when warmed up it works fine. You know that whole it's hot and swells, cold and shrinks thing. Just a thought if nothing else fixes it.
Later..

Nope..it is surely the o2 sensors. It hasnt done it since the day i unplugged them, and now i have an 11.99 to show for it without them plugged in!

Ran into the same problem with my car while it was injected. Talk to a mustang guru about it and told me that I wasn't supposed to clean the iac, it fucks with the computer. Although what I did is bought one of those idle plates and tuned out the surging. Good luck and hell yeah on making that pony rip!!!!!
