Ricers.......A Deep Thought

I just can't and never will understand their thinking, heh nor do I want to. It's just trying to justify the fact that a fwd ~110 hp civic has even the slightest chance aganist a real sports car boogles the mind. Yet, there they are revvving their engines at stoplights and doing the patent "ricer-flyby".
Who on god's green little earth picked a Honda civic of all cars to trick out ? Don't you dare say cuz they r cheap cuz they're not. and there are plenty of cars cheaper that have way more potential.
They spend tons of money on looking fast when they could've been fast. I just don't understand how bling bling has more value/importance to them than vroom vrooom.
I am proud to say I sucessfully converted a few ricers. 1 of them used to drive a civic hatchback wit a 500w system and spoiler. He now drives a 240sx that's waiting for a red top sr20.
Talkin to him I found some interesting stuff out. He didn't know wat went behind going fast just to be able to look it. Him and his friends would look at the car's in magazines but never read the technical stuff behind it. I figure that most ricers are like this. They are ignorant. They simply do not know why for example a Spoon DC5 (Inetgra) has a big catback HKS exhaust that looks as big as a coffee can. Or why it has big rims only in the front (little do they know the rims are also lightweight and provide better traction).
Granted a lot of them piss me off on the highway, they are just ignorant. However, I feel very sorry for the real honda tuners out there (ex; Spoon, Mugen...). These ricers are really fukkin their image.
This goes for any car not just civic. I just used the civic as we all are a little too familar with the local riceboy and his "fast (pah) civic"

i dunno, i read an import mag once, i had this overwhelming urge to buy a honda and add stickers... thank god i resisted...

You are right, they only look at the pictures and don't read the tech. When I lived in Springfield I had a buddy in Ct who actually knew what the fuck he was doing, but all his friends were the "if it looks fast, then it is" crowd. He had a really tight little civic that he spent quite a bit on and it ran 12 second quarters, but he got bored and started to tune his lexus. Tell your friend to go with the blacktop sr20, that's what I did in my 92. It has more potential and you can safely up the boost stock and pull and extra 40 horses out of it. The redtop is a little weaker due to the cast pistons. ANYWAYS ricer mentality is a fad; when these kids grow up it will be something new like taking the money spent buying the body kits-stickers-hood scoops and actually sinking it into the suspension-motor..
