LOL....dont worry...when you do it the first time you'll know exactly what it is ,and you will try never to do it again.......one of the worst feeling ive ever had was driving marks vette and getting the hole IRS teeth chatter for 15 seconds....SORRY MARK

i get it in the truck from time to time. i think its caused by the wheels getting traction, but not enough to hook, so the sudden grip sends the wheels bouncin. :eh:

it just feels like you're doing a burn out over little jumps, the whole ass end just keeps bouncin, its reallyh annoying when you're trying to race someone

wheel hop is caused by rear axle wind up, mor comon on leaf spring cars than anything else. the reason IRS gets it is because ther is nothing to prevent the loading/unloading of each axle, and by design the RR comes up putting all power to the left rear which makes that spin, and then the unloading causes the RR to spin and it jsut keeps going back and forth....a wolfe race craft type rear anti-sway bar will basically eliminate this wheel hop, but the axle moving up/down on IRS changes the camber angle which distorts the footprint, on a solid axle camber is not a variable so it stays consistent.

solid axle, the components are there to make the car hook silly, its dependable and you will notice no difference in handling capability.

BAHH!! My camaro does it all the time in reverse when I give it a little gas, it feels like the passenger tire is smacking the frame or body and it is horrible!! Only in reverse though so I have to find out how to fix it....

not true, at least for me. i noticed a huge difference between handling on my old 1999 V6 and 2000 GT VS the 1999 cobra..
the handling difference in the twisties is like night and day..
it's only slightly noticable on uneven pavement and concrete...

did they have aftermarket rear suspension components?

i was compairing stock for stock... i'm sure the difference would change, with suspension upgrades.. IRS is definatly more difficult to launch correctly or do burnouts without getting wheelhop.. upgraded half shalf's make it less worrysome as well as upgrading the rear suspension components.. i had been looking into having a custom IRS built to replace the stock unit...

can the 99 rear be switched for a 03 rear or WAY too different?? lol

the 03 IRS suffers from the same problems as the 99 IRS, the 03 irs just has 31 spline half shafts instead of the 99's 28 spline shafts, supposedly upgraded strength, and a greater diameter, but the hubs CV joints are the same..... but given enough wheelhop and launches on slicks, you'd still shear em off, if you take it to the track, make sure you check the shafts afterwards, which is a PITA.... but they tend to show stress cracks where the splines end, sometimes even after only a few agressive launches..
here are some pictures
