Ok guys. tomarrow i plan to make a big decision. I want to buy a new toy. the question is.... Quad or dirtbike. I've riden both for years. Im aproved through kawisaki. havent tryed the otherslatly. i was in there looking at an 05 kx250f. witch is the four stroke moto cross bike. This bike is brand new left over. they want 4500. I also could try for a new 07 kx250f. I havent riden dirtbikes agressivly in a few years. but have raced quads since. I was considering trying to get the loan through suzuki and geting the ltr 450r . for a bunch load more money. both i would race. help me out b4 tomarrow. i hope to get it soon.

I havent ridden either of the bikes, but I have ridden a Raptor 700, moves but sits too high, the Suzuki goes well but its too wide. It would be ok if it was gonna be only on the track, but for the woods...no good, although I did like the way it handled, and felt better than the Raptor. The YFZ 450 and the Honda 450R are pretty evenly matched. The seat on the Honda is more comfy and the suspension is great, but it needs to be geared. If you're in the tight stuff, it chugs, BAD. But its nothing a bigger rear sprocket wont fix. The Yamaha doesnt feel as good as the Honda but in a drag race the Yamaha will win. I havent had the chance to ride the Kawi. Good luck, hope this helps...

If you are getting a quad i would say either the trx450r or kfx450r. I am picking up my kfx450r friday. From what i head its an awsome bike. It feels really light and the power hits good. Narrow frame up front is awsome for handleing. The only thing to worry about is its the first year so we have no idea what kind of problems the bike may have. The trx is obviously an awsome machine, but stock for stock the kfx is a much better bike. DONT GET THE LTR. alot of people have been having some major problems with them. The cases have been cracking almost in half. Tranny gears have been shattering and destroying the motor and its happend to most people after the warranty has expried and suzuki has said the people are on their own. If you want to wait a little bit KTM is going to be coming out with their quad which from what i hear is going to be amazing. They have Pro Tim Farr working with R&D to create this quad so chances are its going to be a great quad. Thats just my 2 cents.

Just for arguments sake, how can you say the KFX is "a much better bike" when in the previous line you said "its only in its first year so we have no idea..." The Honda is a proven machine due to its heritage(you know that as well as I do)The KFX could be a total turd like the Suzuki. They certainly didnt get it right with the Tecate or the Mojave. I'm not mad.....I'm just sayin...

Sorry i shouldnt have said better bike. What i meant is from people that have went from the other 450s to the kfx it has a much lighter feel, better power, and just feels like a better bike. Also stock for stock it pulls on all the other bikes until 5th gear. Like you stated we have no idea how the KFX will be as far as major problems but josh creamer has been testing it out on some tracks in Socal for a little while now and there havent been any real problems.
lol, lift the cutlass and throw some 31" mud tires on it

I cant say that the new suzuki is a flop. its actually doing rather well. tecates and the older ones like the ltr 250r didnt last as long as the honda 250r. out of the box. i'd give the yamaha and the suki more credit. the kfx just hasnt had time to prove itself. i have a feeling it wil. granted its not a very wide quad it stil has technology the yfz and trx dont have. alot of influence from the suzuki went into the kawi. theyre friends.

the kfx is actually 15 lbs heavier then the yfz.. gota rememeber the EFI systems weigh more then a carb does. damn electricity

haha, thats funny...I am biased to the 450R cuz Hondas are all I've ever owned. Saw too many friends with problems on other machines thats all.

get a yamaha
:stupid: and it depends on what kind of riding you are planning on doing. There is a big difference between say a trail machine like a raptor and a race set up quad like the yfz 450. It all depends on your riding style and what you plan to do with it.

ihave a friends with ltr's and then friends with hondas. both never had problems. the hondas tranny is kind of week out of the box. its the only major problem. i've owned hondas my self. older xr's and things like that. there bullet proof just tend to lack on improving there machines. the 450r hasnt changed at all. except plastics. where the yfz has changed every year since it came out. the suzuki being a late modle bike in 06 never made changes either. but they were stil more advanced then the rest of them. long travel front end. smaller rear tires, efi, just moto cross ready. witch is what i ride al the time.

How does a long travel front end, smaller tires and EFI more advanced? OK EFI, maybe. Small tires=no ground clearance. Long travel, and a +2 frontend=no woods. Which was my original point in the first place. You dont need to improve on an already great machine(450R) Only thing that would make it better is more gear. They also added electric start for 07. But I guess thats not an improvement :-/

Is that when they added electric start? If it was-my bad. But I made my point.

yea they added electric start that year. they also made some other small changes. Anyways long travel and smaller tires are good for people like me who race. Long travel is also good for in the woods. Most woods races also usually go +1's up front on the trx which makes it 2 inches wider. I would really just try and ride all of them and see which one you like best. Then go to the dealer and sit on them all and see which one fits you best. As for problems the yamaha had(dont know if it still does) an electrical charging issue. It also has a problem with the auto decomp plug coming out and spitting out oil(easy fix with a billet plug), The trx frame must be gusseted because they always crack right under the seat, the ltr has quite a few problems mainly being tranny gears breaking and cases cracking then suzuki leaves you on your own, and the kfx we have no idea what can go wrong (hopefully nothing because i put a deposit on one last night).

I owned a yfz in 04 and the electrical system could have been better. They redid the entire thing for 05 and had less problems. honda had problems with the eletric start. this guy at the marryland race iw as in had it. He siad he had issues with it alot. he actually didnt finish. people have bad luck with alot of bikes comin from all the factories. the ltr has a wide front end. its like 50 inches or 48. osmthing close to illigle in the organizations. off set rims and like gibsons front ends often send them over. wider is better for moto cross. im talking stock for the tires. out of the crate stuff. i actually saw doug gust run the stock tires at the nationals in Budds creek. just on beedlock rims. im not full out ltr fan. trust me they are not the god of quads. but theyre not a bad machine at all. iw ould say honda needs to step up there game cause next year im feeling the yfz is gunna go efi. that wil sell me.
