Honda 954 questions

I am looking to get a 954 and I found one with 12,100 on the clock for 5,200.... Is that a decent price... The bike looks clean no leaks fork seals are good and its completely stock. It just has some scratches on the lower left ferring.... Is that a good price or should I keep looking... the bike is silver and black.

its all up to you man really .... i have never bought a bike with over 10k miles on it ...if my bike starts to get close to 10k miles i sell it .... i just cant see buying a bike with say 12k miles ride for 5k for the year and its closer to 20k miles on a bike and i never see to many people with that many miles .... i guess its your call as to how long you will have it for and other things ...

thats about what its worth, not really a deal, you really dont need to worry about mileage with honda's, MENTL900 (wherever that guy went) had one with around 30k, and mines up to about 18 right now.

but spence wouldnt it be a harder sell or wouldnt you loose money if you ever try and get rid of it ? and what about maintence ?

also how you like your bike i been looking at 900rr to buy as a 2nd bike just not sure about them

It would be a little rough on resale, if thats what you were buying it for, but beign just about 10 years old now im not too concerned about selling it for any kind of money, when i up grade ill probly just use the parts from it to build a gokart.

theres only 2 problems ive ever had with mine, the kill switch is very sensitive (gotta pull it apart and clean it), and one of the chain adjusters siezed and broke off (steel in aluminum) so i had to helicoil it. low speed turning i find easier than the newer 600's, although you can feel its heavier.

My bike has 18k on it, and its much faster and snappier than my buddys 954 that has 7k on it. IMO hondas arent even broken in yet till 10-11k. The 900RR that I used to ride has 49k on it... NO PROBLEMS. Rode it to laconia, loudon, epping, mosquomicut last year with 45k+ on it, no issues. And its been BEATEN and I mean HAMMERED its whole life since new. And the oil hasnt been changed too often either. And it still runs great, just wanted something faster. Pretty much if its a honda and it was even remotely taken care of, miles arent an issue AT ALL.

I have a 74 CB550 with 14k on it, that friggin thing still even runs like new lol. Even back then hondas dont mind miles...

Thats good to hear because on saturday I should be picking up a near mint condition de-stickered 2002 954 with a "devil High CF mount pipe" undertail kit, flushmount blinkers, with 9,100 K miles for $6,000.... The fact that the other bike I looked at this weekend the one with 12k on it has been down kind of freeked me out so I figured I may as well spend the extra money and get the better bike.

no...its not like wicked sweet but its fucking mint...its got a slip on, jetted, sprocketed...it goes good...really good, its never been dumped and he hasnt really ridden it in the past 3 years...he wants 4500 for it...but its one of those things where he will only take 4500 for it and if he doesnt get it he will just keep it...i can get you pictures and total details if you are interested

Yup not getting the 954 because the dude who is selling it is a sketchy dude.... He has a lean on the bike and I asked him if he could pay it off with his cash before I came to pick up the bike and he refused to do so even though he admitted that he didnt owe that much on it and he could easily pay off the note... Then I said could I go with him to the bank so I could watch the transaction so I could get the title that day with the bike and he refused to do that. The guy is being sketchy so I guess I am just going to get the Mint Low mileage 01 Gixxer 750 I originally looked at...

Ohh well I loved this bike and its ashame the current owner is impossible to deal with.... here is the 9k mileage 954 RR with Devil Highmount exhaust, Frame sliders, Undertail kit, Flushmounts, Destickered "Honda Bird" (only god knows why someone would do that)...

good luck with the gsxr i am sure youll like it ....only thinng i didnt like about my 01 gsxr was only 1 headlight on during the day other side was highbeam and the Military time on the speedo wouldnt do 24 hour clock ...

On the first 954 mentioned talking him down a little bit would have been worth your while! Like the other guys said, to get your money back with a higher mile bike is not easy!! Good luck with whatever you choose!

CBR900RR's are great bikes! I had a 1995 and loved it, should have never sold it but only did so because I picked up my '01 RC1 at the same time! When I sold the 900RR it had over 22K miles and the valves could have used adjusting.. that was about it!! Perfect bike... but big and heavy!!

Just bought my first bike 2001 Gixxer 750 with 2,400 miles all stock with exception of a Yoshimira slip on pipe.... Beatiful flawless bike... I am so pumped... It feels nice now all I need is frame sliders and to have it registered.

i dont mean to chime in on the thread but it is 954 related. i was looking at a 954 at sharks cycle in stafford. they want 6499 for an 02 cbr 954. it has just under 13k on it fo rmiles. the fairings have some rubs on it and the graphics have seen better days. doesnt look like its been laid down or atleast road rash pssible just dropped on the ground, maybe leaned against stuff. a few times. i cant really get what happened. it has a D and D pipe. not sure if its a full system or not. the bike sounds great and seams real tight. im just looking into bikes tho. i dont wanna jump into a bike. I've riden harleys but not like a super bike type. I am by far a recklass driver. i know my limits. nor can i afford to get tickets an raise my insurence. so speeding isnt really my main goal. i do want torque for easy in and out of situations. I hear there great for that. Like is aid its gots some scratching on it. I'd be looking to get new fairings all around eventually in the winter. Any idea were to get those.

that should be 1000 less than they are asking,also get a diagram and make sure all the fairing parts are in place, some of their bikes get pieced together. and be aware that if its a repo bike, registering it in worcester will be a royal pain.

^^^ go with that ^^^ doesn't sound to be too bad of a bike. Check it out further, take if for a ride if possible and low ball them on the price!! Good luck with your decision! 954's are sweet from what I hear. I have an old buddy from HS that has had three of them he likes 'em so much!!

if the seats are anything like the 600rr run away as fast as possible as it is the most uncomfortable thing out on the road ...even with a aftermarket seat the hondas suck balls ....

If the pannels have light scratches you could always take them off and repaint them then go to tapeworks.com and get the repro sticker kits... could be cheaper than buying new plastics

i just bought a 600rr it came with a corbin seat and after a few days of riding its very hard and no cushion on it ...then i put the stock seat back on and that has little cushion at all still firm alot better then the corbin but still not comfortable .... i have let people who ride gsxrs on it and they say its horrible , had few friends with kawis jump on it and say same thing ...

i have heard that the 929 is the same thing honda just made cheap seats ...

i've been sitting on a few bikes latly. i came to be more comfortable on the biggerbikes. i only felt rigth on the new ninja 600 not the 636. i sat on R1's and zx10's and gsxr 1000's and they fit me better. im 6'2 i think thats what makes the difference. i havent sat on a 600 i really liked. im no pro either. i plan to ask to go lower on that 954. i wil def check that site out too. iw ouldnt say they were light scratches. i think what happened was it had been dropped not layed down but like maybe someone knocked it over or somthing. Is there ways to get vehicle reports on bikes? the plastics seem to match upt oo.
