just like the title of this post says....
so i am gonna have to do a small block for cost effectiveness until i can do a bbc like next year, which is ok cuz i have intake carb ect for the sbc.

but i need to get some opinions on transmissions here..
car has a 2004r in it right now.. will need a rebuild with more power no questions asked... but with a stock 2004r how much power can it support?
or should i just get a th400 right now so i have it when i do the bbc? overdrive isnt to big of a deal to me cuz i mainly drive around worcester-auburn-shrewsbury-oxford

i just need some opinions here.. and what tailshaft 400 am i looking for? I basicall y wanna be able to do a bolt in swap and unfortunately i know my fords a lil better in the dept. Th350 is also an option but i need to change my drive shaft and cross member so ide rather just go ahead and use a th400

FIRST OFF YOU REALLY DONT WANT TO PUT A TH400 BEHIND A SBC .... YOU ARE NOT GOING TO GO NUTS AND A TH400 WILL ROB POWER FROM THE DRIVELINE ....YOU ARE BETER OFF GOING W/ THE TH350 IT WILL GO BETTER AND A LITTLE CHEEPER TO BUILD

IF YOU WERE GOING TO GET A TH400 STAY AWAY FROM VANS ... THEY WERE LABLED AS TH400'S BUT THE TRANS IS ACTUALLY A TH375 BELIVE IT OF NOT AND WAS WEAK AS SHIT, IT HAD THE 9" TAIL HOUSING.... STAY AWAY:no:

TH400 short tail will bolt right in using the existing x-member.....a TH350 you'd need an x-member out of a Th350 G-body...i know a guy who was drag racing a 450hp SBC with a stock 2004r (just a huge stall) running high 7's/low 8's in the 1/8 and it stayed alive for more than a year, then he sold it....i'm gonna be running a stocker for right now cuz i have no money for a rebuild......

i'd say instead of a rebuild, go to bruce in cali and get a killer street econo for $1500 , or a stage 3 from bowtie overdrives for $1200

BUT - if you wanna keep a 200-4R, you'd want a better core...the 4.3 cores are shit, you'd want a BRF core from a GN or CZF from an SS (easier to find)

im aware of all of this.. but i dont plan on spending money on a tranny, just toss one in and go how it is. im not looking to break speed records, just be able to drive around and not stop to pick up pieces
