Get the pieces and call me. I can get it set up cheap if we just drop off an empty housing. If you've never done it before and don't have the special tools it's not worth risking wasting a set of gears.... Just my .02

And where the hell are you getting all the parts including brakes for $1,200?!?

Strange has always made a good product, a couple of my friends run their axles w/ no problems and Currie sells complete assemblies, but you may want to check and see if other people like them. Thats a lot of money to drop on a manufacturer that may not have a good rep.

thats just some prices my cousin has quoted me, im gonna talk to my other cousin and see if he knows anyone, he builds engines up in NH, and runs a 9 sec monte carlo, so he might have some hookups i can take advantage of.

moser will run you 800 for a bolt in housing and axles, get a junkyard carrier (100 bucks) come with pinion support etc. a new posi 400 (trac-loc will do you just fine) . and you can get the explorer rear disk setup from moser for like 450 500?

advantages of a posi over a detroit locker? i would think a locker would hold up better

unless you have a motor like mine, a locker is more harm on the drivetrain than its worth. the posi works all the time, the locker only works when you punch it going straight, and sometimes turning.

A POSI is a 1000x better for a car that sees regular street duty.

correct me if im wrong, but the detroit locker has the rear wheels spinning at the same speed at all times (good in the straights NOT anything else), and a posi would compensate corners and have the wheels spinning at different speeds around corners? correct? and pat if your thinking about doing it yourself give me a call, id be more than happy to help you out with this!

a detroit locker is a ratcheting locker, meaning it it unlokced (open) when one wheel is being forced to turn slower than the other (turning) when you straighten out and stab the gas it locks up solid. not to be confused with a spool, which locks them both all the time.

My Strange 12 bolt with Strange 33 spline super strength posi unit. caliper mounts for disc. abs sensor and aluminum support cover.,1350 yoke. It came to a total of $2300.

I'd like to know how the 9" is that much cheaper?
Is it used parts from the junk yard?

as far as the 12 vs 9, its my relative understanding that more or less the 9 ends up being a few hundred dollars cheaper when its all said and done for most applications, but im sure it depends on exactly what it is you get and from whom.

Yeah but if you buy everything new for either rear end they wind up costing about the same. I've priced them both, trust me. Unless you get into different housing ends on the 12 bolt, that would explain your extra couple hundred. But, I bought my 12 bolt used for $800 with drum brakes. That's cheaper than a new 9" housing with a used center....

P.S. If you really wanted I could be convinced to let my 12 bolt go for around $1,300 (all rebuilt about 4k miles ago..), wilwood brakes and all...... I have a Dana that needs to take it's place.... :cool2:

Change the $50 bearing and it'll be just fine. I do it every season, but then again, I also put a shitload of miles on it...

My big question here is, why the 3.73's? You'll have a lot more fun with the Ford Motorsport 4.10's. If you're worried about fuel mileage, it's only about 150 -200 rpm difference at 70 - 75 mph. Small price for the application of grunt to the ground.

Small price for the application of grunt to the ground. Pontiac's are torque monsters. 4.10's are almost too much gear for even a built pontiac motor. A little less gear keeps them in their powerband longer
