Well a guy is selling a sportbike for a few hundred bucks. How much to drop a new engine and clutch asssembly in there? Might also need some electrical work. Basically I want to know if it's worth it as I want to have a bike for under $2000.

Its a 1991 kawasaki ex500 . Guy states it's race wired, no headlight, etc. I would love to make it a 750 but if it's too much work, I'll even drop the same motor in there. I just have no clue where to find these parts or how much it costs and if I can't do it, how much the labor will be,etc.

I highly doubt it will be worth it. My buddy picked up a running 1994 500 ex for $1200 with unhacked wiring. I would stay away from this bike electrical work can be a nightmare.

first off, the engine sits on a "cradle". Unless a 750 motor "fits" on a 500 cradle (unlikely), then you will need to make a 750 cradle fit the 500 frame. Then you need to worry about already butchered wiring. Your gonna have to hack it up more to swap a motor, especially a newer one that has a CDI box (computer). But if you just need to swap same motors you won't likely need a new clutch (as another motor will have one, likely still good), and unless the bikes under $200 I wouldn't bother. As corpse said, those things sell cheap in great condition. I owned a 90 and it ran mint; I only paid $300 for it. Look for a better deal before you commit to this one. Yeah, I moved to Quincy for a while and left my computer in storage. The PCing was going well and I started doing vinyl sign/lettering out of the same shop, but my father bought me out. I swing by now and then and help a bit but I've mostly washed my hands of it. Working with family sucks, and my father and I have the same temper. OCC has nothing on us, we fight with fists, lol. On a lighter note, PM me with what you want/need and I'll put the order through to my father and hook it up. Thats cuz you know I'm good like that, lol.
