first bike question

I'm lookin to buy my first bike. Am gonna look for a 600 to start off with. I don't have much riding time. I keep seeing these ads in magizines like Auto Hunter for places that have bikes with plastic damage or whatever damage. Since its my first bike I'd rather buy something that I could care less about dropping while riding in town. Has anyone here ever purchased any of these bikes??? I just wanna know if they are still safe to ride while looking like crap or are they all in need of work to ride again??

When you go to look at them look at the frame motor cases bar ends forks swingarm for damage. If any of these look like they have major damage stay away. If its just the plastics the bike was probally droped in a driveway. I have a GSXR1000 at work right now that was a repo every plastic is broken but no damage to the frame case etc. Just my .02. Also ask about the title if it is clean salvage reconstructed.

Thanks for the info. Would a salvage title on a bike be the same as a car meaning it had to go through a state inspection to be re titled??

FWIW, I personally wouldn't touch a salvage titled bike no matter who fixed it.

same here i bought one before and didnt see any damage i dug up some info on previuos owner guy before the guy i bought it from who origanlly crashed it and he pointed out all the hidden damage ever since then i didnt feel safe riding it ....then 1 month lata i crashed it ..

The 1st bike I had was laid down. 2 weeks after I bought it someone ran me off the road. It think its a bad omen to buy one that someone else already crashed. Just my 2cents.
