in the previous thread about a camaro....jay pretty much showed me a good view on what i should do, i really didnt wanna sell the caprice and i didnt do too much research cuz i thought it was gonna be wicked expensive but i see that it really isnt that bad but i have a couple questions......
what is a good company for a camshaft? im looking in the summit magazine and dont know which ones i should look at.
Comp cams, edelbrock, crane cams, trickflow, lunati, summit
becuase i have an auto tranny with a stock converter...it says i should look at cams intake duration @ .050° 190° to 205°
and a poweband by rpm idle-3500 rpm is that wat i hafta look for or is there a little more aggressive one i could use in my 350 lti engine....
same companies for the rockers...1.6 ratio?
anyone know wat u think the best set up for the 350 lti small block chevy would be?
im researching stuff on impalassforum.com too
thanx for the input!
btw thanx jay:thumbsup:
Use the GM HOT cam and 1.6 rockers.
Here is the kit. HOT (http://www.gmpartsdepot.com/store/product1.asp?SID=8&Product_ID=1476)
But I'm sure you can find it cheaper if you look.

Yes, that is the kit I was speaking of. You probably want to look into getting a new set of lifters too. That's a tad pricey, but I will try and find where to get them for a better price.
Remember, kits tend to be for lazy people and are priced accordingly.

glen if you put that cam with no other modz in your car you will be SO dissapointed. Unless you plan on upgrading to a 2500-3000 rpm stall converter, (to get the car to go where the power curve is)and getting a catback exhaust at the least, your gonna waste alot of money. My friend mike has the Hotcam in his car and it really screams, and comes to life at like above 4rpm... all the way past 65-6600. But keep in mind, hes got 4:10s exhaust, and a manual trans so his car is more "setup" for it i guess you could say.
I'd reccomend a GM zz3 cam (not much bigger than stock), but it calls for 1.5 rockers, so you can run stockers to save you money, or you can get the cam I have at the moment in my car from crane (dubb'ed the "227" for the last 3 digits in the part #)
They're not the biggest of cams for the trouble to install a cam on an LT1, but you can get away with running everything stock besides springs with these too cams. Unless you want to start upgrading your rear end gear ratio, and transmission upgrades, to get the hotcam to make USEABLE power, it isn't a wise choice..
Any cam you choose, I'd just get stock lifters, but get '96 models (yes there is a diffrence with them from 94s and 95s. ('96s have better lubrication properties) FWIW: I run these in my '95 block... Unless your running an Extreme Energy cam from Comp, where the lobes on the cam are very steep, stock lifters wont have a problem "keeping up or performing".
oh yeah, If you do run a 1.6 rocker, you will have to modify the baffles inside the valve covers, but after 10 min of work, they will fit with stock valve covers...
Again these are just my opinions, But I am really just tryin to save you some cash before you get the wrong cam for your application.

Lt1 Aluminum heads so you could increase cr if needed...
Comp cams XR 07-304-8 works with stock PC
1.6 rollers
comp lifters 850-16
Hydrarev kit
Good enough I would say for starters
