Does anyone here have any experience with them? I am buying the low compression 8.5:1 Speed Pro Forged pistons, and I noticed they were far cheaper than the JE's or the Ross' pistons. Is there a "you get what you pay for" effect here, or even though they don't cost much, they would still hold fine on a 700 horse SBC?

How much of a price difference are we talking here? If it's like <$50, I would go with the tried and true pistons.

hey bro save the money i have those in my 468 ci big block ..ive hammerd on that thing for 3 seasons never had a prob....and then this past season i was squirting it w/ the go go juice (nitrous) ...and now it will be living its 4'th season in a 39 ford ... i have had no complaints at all from those pistons.... i dont know if the SBC are the same as BBC when it comes to the coating they put on the sides and the skirts but those pistons didnt make a noise ...... my .05

My 455 had the speed pro's in it when I initially assembled the short block. After I decided to go a little "wilder" with the combo I was told by one of the national pontiac specialists to pull them out and put in the SRP's. They're lighter and stronger, which means they'll rev better. Although, in a pontiac the price isn't all that much more. $300 is a good chunk of change so either way I guess it's up to you, I'm not so sure they're THAT much better..... :cool2:

you really don't NEED the SRP/JE's or any other higher end pistons unless you are going to run over 800hp extra insurance? yes, but you should be able to get away with the speed-pro's. although some good points of the je/srp's is that they run fairly tight clearances for a forged piston, which will result in longer life, less piston slap, and better ring seating.

Speed Pro/TRW is a decent piston, the difference's in all the pistons are materials to some degree but a big difference is weight, The hot piston to get right now is the CP.
SRP's are for N/A or small n20, i would rather have the heavy TRW/Speed pro's and if u can get them with the coating thats even better, make sure u have the block honed to the pistons
Good Luck
