ok, with my new motor my hood wont close at all, the carb its way too high and the hood will hit the carb when i try to close it...

i need some ideas on what i could do

i was thinking a shaker setup to get adequate clearance for me to run an aircleaner and be able to drive in the rain (its gonna be my daily in the summer, no ifs ands or buts...cept for quad hauling)

any other ideas on what i could do? new cowl hood is out, can't afford it...steel is $430, glass is just as much for a bolt on....

I think you should wait until you can afford the cowl hood. Those look great with the cowl hood.

get a 4" cowl like mine, then build a motor to use it....or you can build the motor first and drive around with no hood?

motor is built...4" is too obnoxious for me, i want something nice...it's already in the car, but here is what it looked like before it went in...they wont give me an inspection sticker with no hood, and this is gonna be my daily in the spring/summer.....i just wanna get it done so the engine compartment is completely finished without any worries so i can move onto other phases

Hes got a Holley Systemax 2 kit, heads, intake, cam, lifters, pushrods, timing set, roller rockers, the heads are complete. It's in the Summit Catalogs, definitely a good deal I think for the price.. I forget how much it all costs though.

yeah the systemaxisnt really a bad deal...for 2200 it gives a 5.0 stang 350 flywheel horse.i just hope he doesnt plan on taking it out and breaking any records with it.one question though...is this his first car he built?..cause if it is kudos to him.ive got alot of respect for you after seeing what you put together without even heaving your liscense.

we paid $1340 from jegs for everything...(i have no idea why the 5.0 setup is so much more, but its like $2200 from summit)...its supposed to give me 425 flywheel hp...

yes, this is the first car i have actually built, when i was little i helped my father with everything the best i could...but then we got a deal on the SS, had a 350 behind the house, things clicked, started gathering parts, and now its in the car with a full MSD ignition w/6AL, i have all autometer gauges (need to be put in), circle track head cooling setup, lots of braided steel hoses and stuff, and alot of other little things that pull the package all together....next step is a full 3" semi true dual exhaust (x-pipe setup) and some other stuff...

Thanks man I definitely appreciate it. You know you're son will be driving a Stang in a few years :smokin:

I've seen SickboySS motor in person and lemme tell you he did a damn good job on it.

thanx man...alot of people have been saying that same thing, about having respect for the car since i built it, and i will have respect for everything, cuz i know how much money and effort and time it took for this car...i'm not saying i'll never beat on it, cuz i know thats not true, but i wont beat it into the ground...this motor was built to take an ass kicking, alot of the stuff we did was overengineering and this thing has so many things that we spent extra money on for insurance so nothing will happen (like ALL arp fasteners, custom head cooling, etc)...

you'll meet me soon enough, i'll guarantee it, hahaha (i get my liscense in 3 weeks, if i see a buncha modded winter cars/daily drivers at the D&D on grafton hill of course i'll stop by, haha)

me and chris will be the only 2 people at school with heavily modified cars....i mean theres a kid with a civic and he's got rims and a pipe, someone else has a stock firebird, might be a 4th gen f-body, a shitty 350 monte SS, but nobody is gonna be makin more noise than me and him (prob. me because i'll have the electric cutouts, hahaha)....

i'm already thinkin chris is gonna win best car in the yearbook for next year.... 95% chance mine wont be painted or anything by then, and his is gonna be freshly painted, and how he takes care of his car, it'll shine better than when it was new...if they picked me for worst (my school is a buncha assholes, hahaha, my school is full of snobs too, a girl has a BRAND NEW mercedes C230 coupe covered in salt, haha) then me and him could have a side by side burnout pic, hahahaha, that would be bad ass....

Yeah, like Don said it's nice to see a couple guys your age working hard for what they have and not just having mommy and daddy buy it for them. And sickboy, don't worry, no matter what anyone ever says they always get beat on. If you cant have any fun with them then whats the point? :D

for sure man...i'm not a goody two shoes by no means so i know i wont even try to say that i wont beat on it....i beat the living piss out of my quad and snowmobile, but thats different, i didn't build those (well the sled i re-built)...yes, they're made to take it, but i made this one to take it, and that is what it will do...

i know i'll be blowing parts up until i get cash to put better ones in there (tranny & rear) but thats what happens...you wanna play hard? you gotta pay hard...

if the stock market keeps going like its going, then in the next couple of months my car will rapidly complete to where i think its pefect for me, its not that far off....all i want is an exhaust, finsih my autometer dash, new shifter, and other than that its all body stuff like a new trunk lid, new drivers door & hinges, new spoiler, floor repair (its not like unky clutch's which is perfect)...and then the car is done until i can afford paint and then its as complete as its gonna get....and i can't wait...

its a sickness, and i am a sick boy :smokin:

trying to solve my problem..... would a 1-1/4" drop base K&N clear a vac. secondary holley? if i do that and get a 3" element it will only be 1-3/4" above the flange, about the high of the breather tube, and i was doing some measuring, that might fit.....

it all depends if the drop base fits....
