i looked into them and was told 100x they are heavy, awkward, uncomfortable junk bikes.

for a first bike .... i say do it .. i think they look sweet .. and its all about the rider .. if you feel comfortable enough with the bike .. then it'd be a good one to learn on

dont do wheelies or ride uphill, the motor will starve for oil.

if you know nothing about bikes, have never ridden a motorcycle, then buy something brand spanking new.. so you won't have to do more than simple maintinence on it, until the warrenty wears out, by then you should have learned something... first time motorcycle riders w/ a 1100cc bike? it all depends on who's riding it, how comfortable they feel on it, etc.. get someone who's nervous, and has a lack of confidence, certainly wouldn't be a good thing.. talk to any good motorcycle salesman, they'll steer you away from anything larger than a 600, they'll try to steer you twards a 400-500cc cruiser, like they use in the motorcycle safety course that you should take... if not for the information they give, and helping you learn how to ride the right way, do it for the 10% off your insurance bill, and the licence they give you at the end..

older suzuki's have a forward sump, even the newer ones are slightly forward.

or if he has never rode a bike before and decides to give it to much gas and try out some new things on it ...yes he can start writing off his stuff
