I found a 96 kawasaki zx9r with 8,000 miles and a pipe for 3500. Is it worth the money? I dont know much about bikes and this will be my first one. I have ridden 4 wheelers and dirt bikes all my life though.

Not too bad, but for 96 I'm sure you could find a better deal. Check the want ad. That style ninja wasn't the most popular among riders. I don't have much personal experience with them though, just had a few friends that disliked them (comfort, reliability, etc). Had an older one (88' 600, first bike) that I loved. And the new Ninjas are absolutely nasty bikes. My opinion: you may want to pick that want ad back up and look for a Honda CBR in that price range (F2, F3, MAYBE an F4 could be had). Or look for a Yamaha FZR 600, another "starter" bike I owned that I enjoyed (hardly changed anything body wise from 88-98', and extremely cheap). Even a 96-97 GSXR (gixxer) could be found.

I'd look at the bike that suits you most. Go sit on them, find one thats comfortable and one you like the most. $3500 is a decent bike price range. You can find a lot of em for a little bit less or a little bit more that you can haggle down. Do some more research.

Thanks for the advice a new want ad came out today I will have to take a look. As far as mileage goes what is high mileage for a bike? I have seen very few bikes with mileage over 25,000 so I assuming that is about the same as a 100,000 miles on a car. I personally dont want a bike with more than 10,000 miles on it.

Hmmm... Bike mileage has no real "average" so it's tough to say. Most ride it after work or on weekends, not long commutes, etc. Some, but not many use it as an only form of transportation. 10,000 on a mid 90's bike is a good number. That 88 Ninja I had I bought with 18K on it back in 99/00'. When I sold it a year later it had over 35K on it and still ran like a dream, with no rebuilds or anything. I rode the shit outta that bike. IMO though: Like any car, I'd rather it had high mileage and ran like a top, rather than no mileage on it and having it be a shitbox. Let us know what you end up with. If I bump into anything I'll let you know...

EDIT: I know of a 97-ish Honda CBR F3. Clean as a whistle with a brand new crash cage on it. Never stunted/raced. My friend bought it as a beginner bike for his wife. She never rode it. He's looking for $2500. Shoot me a PM.

Ok Fuck All That Starter Bike Shit.. Its Only Gonna Cost You More Money And Respect Among Riders... You Can Get A Decent 98-00 Gsxr 750 At The Least Or Even A 96-99 Cbr 9oo For Around The Same Price Or A Little More.. The Difference Being That You Can Sell The Bigger Cc Bikes And Get Your Money Back... Plus Once You Buy The Bike, You Will Be Used To Riding It After About A Week.. And Who Wants To Sell Thier Bike After That Long.. It Will Also Cost You Soooo Much Money To Make A 600 Go As Fast.. And The Power Range On Those Is High In The Rpm Range, Therefore A New Rider Will Be Hesitant So Rev The Motor That High To Actually Enjoy The Bike.... You Had The Right Idea With The 96 Ninja.... But I Would Go For The Cbr 900 When I Comes To Slightly Older Bikes..... The Ninjas Were Heavy, And Don't Ever Worry About Mileage On Bikes... They Will Outlast You. K? Take It From The Expert!!!!!! Hell, My Sister Never Rode A Bike In Her Life And I Showed Her How On My 98 Cbr900rr That Was Capable Of A High 9 Second Pass If I Could Keep The Front End Down... So I Don't Wanna Hear About This Starter Bike Shit From Anyone.. You Guys Sound Worse Than The Flippen Salesmen At A 600 Dealership......

O And If You Had The Money To Buy A Corvette And You Could Get One With A 350 In It Or A 427 Would You Get The 350 And Be A Fag Or Would You Buy The 427....?????

O I C It Would Probably Be A Good Idea To Get The 350 Cuz The Big Block Might Have To Much Power For A Beginner... :-/

I gotta admit, I thought he said ZX6 not ZX9, so I offered him other 600cc alternatives. Those ninjas are heavy thought too. But I did put the quotes around starter. So don't be a little bitch and badmouth everyone, lol. And I agree, the CBR 900 is a good bike that can be had for roughly that price.

And I'd buy the Vette with the 350 just to piss you off. No wait, I wouldn't buy a vette. I'd buy a Honda with bright orange decals everywhere and a bottle of "Naaawws" to piss you off. :ninja:

WHO SAID ANYTHING ABOUT BRAND NEW BIKES... YOU WOULD ALSO BE RETARDED TO BUY A BIKE BRAND NEW WHEN YOU CAN GET ONE WITH ALL THE UPPGRADES FOR THE SAME PRICE WITH A FEW MILES ON IT...

UPGRADES BEING THE IMMEDIATE REMOVAL OF THE REAR FENDER AND THEN A PIPE.... THEN ALL POLISHING AND ENGINE UPGRADES... THE PIPE ALONE IS 500 AND YOU LOSE THAT AS SOON AS YOU DRIVE THE BIKE OFF THE LOT.... REMEMBER.. NOONE RIDES NEW BIKES.....

i had a 96 zx-9. it would do almost 170. super comfy and road killa wheele's. i also had a cbr 900. seat was like plywood and lacked power compare to the ninja. i got ride of it real quick.
