For all you ATV riders like myself that head to Maine every once in a while..
I finally got the Raptor back together and headed to Central Maine for the holiday weekend to a buddys place to do some riding. Registered my quad with the state and found out later they just passed a new law prohibiting ATV's from riding on any trails except ones for ATV use. Well after bombing through the snowmobile trails that we thought we could use..and yet again having a slight issue with my machine...we ran into a forest ranger who explained it all for us..haha:blush: The trail has to have a special green sign with a picture of an atv on it. If you are caught on any other trail they can fine/take your quad for 24hrs. There are also a bunch more wardens and rangers around to enforce the new law..we were just lucky because the guy felt bad mine was broken down and being towed with a piece of rope..haha So we "sort of" fixed it and headed for the ONLY ATV trail in the area about a half hour away..which was pritty cool tho..and had a day of good riding!!
It just sucks that a few bad apples ruin everything for the decent people out there that just like to have fun. It looks like Maine is starting to take after all the other states and getting real strict on recreational vehicles..it's just too bad..

Well, see... most of the snowmobile trails are private property, that the land owners allow people to use. Quads and bikes DESTROY trails, which leads a LOT of land owners to just close the trails altogether. Or, the owners put up a single barbed wire, about 3.5ft off the ground with a nice sign to the side saying "No Trespassing". Those stupid enough to trespass, have a REAL bad day.

Shitty, thats one of the biggest reasons I got rid of my bike... just no more places to ride anymore. Someone always has to ruin it by doing something stupid :(

Had a friend almost lose his head back in highschool. I don't ride anymore, because of stupidity.

:stupid: Most people don't have a problem with snowmobiles because they don't do much damage, unless they go through a lake.

The people who try to behead people need to be punished though. A visible cable with two signs and two posts to hold the cable up need to be posted if you want them off your land. Not that I dont' agree that you shouldn't trespass, but you shouldn't be trying to kill them in the process.

No trespassing signs should keep people the fuck off your land. If someone wants to be a hero and blaze through someone's land, after it has been posted, then fuck em. 4wheelers and dirt bikes do a LOT of damage to perfect snowmobile trails.

Now, putting up a wire, and putting up NO sign at all, is wrong.

Most people try to block off a trail BEFORE it even touches their land. And barbed wire is never right, if you think so your a loser. Instead put a fence up. Something that will prevent a rider from coming through your yard, not something malicious or fatal. Thats fucking stupid. Are you soft in the head or something?

I'll make sure that if you EVER turn your vehicle around in my driveway that death rays of all kinds will strike you dead and your vehicle will blow into tiny little pieces.

You my friend, are an idiot!

Why should I have to go above and beyond, to keep people off *MY* land? A sign should be more then enough. I can do what I want with my own land, so if I want to put up a wire (most people use cable, not barbed wire) across my land, so be it. As long as there is a sign saying "No Trespassing", I should be well within my rights. So yes, if your driveway has a sign saying "No Trespassing" and you put tire tacks to blow out tires of offenders, I have no issue with that. Fuck, you can put landmines in, if you want.

Sorry, but I think landowners should be able to protect their land from destruction.

your the kind of person who thinks you should be able to shoot someone for stepping on your yard. People like you need to chill out. A guy near me shot a 17 year old kid on Halloween for stealing a pumpkin. "He was on my property and robbing me" was his claim. Too bad the guy got 20 years in jail. But yeah, it's his property so murder doesn't apply to him. Just like drug possession and dealing doesn't apply cuz it's your property. What right do the police have to arrest you!!? Come on, a dirtbike? Quad? Some noise, some dirt... whats the harm. I don't agree you should be on someones land but refuckinglax. Someone cuts through an existing trail, it's not the end of the world. Lifes too short.

Well, that's your problem. You refuse to see the ramifications of such activities, to a land owner. Here's a perfect example, cuz I've seen it first hand.

Land owner is a dairy farmer. He has his own hay fields. Now, have you any idea what a quad or dirtbike can do to a field? Now lets say there is a group of people? That's loss of money, right there, from a "simple cutting through" action.

It was never an issue, when people used to RESPECT others. Now, its got to the point where people don't give a fuck about other people's property.

There are also levels of acceptibility, when dealing with people abusing your property. Shooting someone for stealing a $1 pumpkin is not acceptable. Shooting someone for stealing your car, is... See, if a person was acting "responsible", they would see the wire. Its when they are riding like an asshole, that it becomes a problem, which I find some humor in.

there is a difference between ripping gears through old man winters hay patch and puttin through an existing trail where people have built their houses. whenever i ride and come along someones property that has an existing trade trough it, i usually dont rip it up and tear ass through there. just get across the land to the other side to go ride.

and yes, there is a huge issue with people respecting peoples land. ive been riding with kids that rip across someones lawn instead of going slow across a backlot trail. I myself try to respect other peoples property, cuz well karma is a bitch.

A lot of snowmobile trails run through hay fields in Maine, VT, and NH. In southern Maine, a lot of trails run through people's back yards. Snowmobiles are a huge issue, as they do very little damage and most people don't ride super late, cuz it gets dark at 4pm. During the summer, it isn't uncommon to hear quads/bikes at 10pm, when kids are asleep (or trying at least). I've found, through years of experience, that snowmobile riders tend to be a lil more respectful then quad/bike riders. Not sure why, I would assume because a LOT of sled riders are older.

You are in the minority, but its nice to see SOME people who are respectful. Its really no worse then people on lakes, on jetskis. They completely ignore ANY resemblance of rules on the water and tend to piss a LOT of people off, being heros. I always grin when I hear about a jetski getting mowed by a speedboat. You are right... Karma is a bitch.
